This term I decided to try and create a different project nest. Our usual space (blue wall) was moved to make way for a space that allowed students to contibute objects as well as paper. So having recently gained access to a number of polystyrene boxes, l began to think about how best to make them work. After considering space, layout, purpose and practicality I decided to use both sides of the new wall and therefore placed it in the centre of the room.
Then I started to lay the boxes out so that both sides would combine display spaces inside the boxes and wall space using the back of the boxes. Initially I added a few items such as books but I intentionally left many spaces blank so that students could contribute their own items and learning to the space. With some encouragement students began to bring in items from home to share. This interaction with the nest has enabled students to begin to develop ownership. The space continues to evolve throughout the immersion phase.
