ABOUT ME
I am a Primary Teacher at a South Brisbane Catholic Primary School in Queensland, Australia and am currently teaching a year 1 class. I completed a Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Australian Catholic University and have since taught students from Prep to year 6. I love to find new and exciting ways to engage my students in the Australian Curriculum and incorporate the use of digital tools where possible.
The focus of my teaching is the learner; it is the central point upon which everything builds. The learning is structured and personalized from the curriculum, for the learner. The skills necessary to be successful are taught and modeled, for the learner. The spiritual and emotional needs are catered for so that the learner may grow. The physical space is adapted and expanded to accommodate the learner’s needs.
Activities are developed with the question ‘What do I want the students to learn?’ at the forefront. Thus with a clear learning intent the teaching can be focused and occur wherever it is best suited. I believe in providing high levels of learning activities to challenge students and allow them opportunities to develop and demonstrate high order thinking skills. My practice is based on current research and constantly improves with reflection and further study.
I enjoy getting involved in school and community activities and trying new things. I take on challenges and responsibilities willingly and carry them out with respect, energy and enthusiasm. Twice, I have had the opportunity to participate in Australian Government Quality Teacher Programs (AGQTP). These programs have provided me with opportunities to; collaborate with and coach other teachers, to implement innovative learning activities and to develop skills and knowledge needed for teaching in the 21st Century.
