This term we will be continuing to work on our creative and higher order thinking skills. With this in mind I am considering getting the students to create an abstract representation of their holidays which they can talk to. I am hoping that these representations will spark lots of questions which we can use to identify simple and complex questions. I don't believe that I need to tell my students which tools they can and can't use because the tool is not the focus. The descriptive language, chosen aspect of their holidays and questions will be our focus initially. I am hoping to use the photo above as stimulus/example for it is a photo I took last week whilst on holidays in Bali when I was at an Elephant Safari Park.
I see this activity in three parts:
1. Choosing and creating the representation of an aspect of the child's holiday.
2. Share these representations without support (written or spoken information). Then recording the students questions which arise when seeing the representations.
3. Sharing what it was intended to represent and analyzing the similarities and difference between the author/artist and audience.
I would love to know some of the ways you will get your students to share their holiday experiences.
